Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a congratulatory letter on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, TodayPress TV TV reports.

Zelenskyy shared the letter, written in Chinese by the Chinese leader, on social media.

In his letter, Xi Jinping conveyed his sincere congratulations and best wishes to Zelenskyy, stating that friendship between the Chinese and Ukrainian peoples serves the fundamental interests of both sides.

In his response, Zelenskyy said he hoped China would play a strong diplomatic role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He specifically said Kyiv was counting on further cooperation with China and on Beijing’s “strong diplomatic role” in bringing Russia’s war against Ukraine to an end.

China’s position on the Ukraine issue has recently attracted particular attention. Chinese representatives continue to call for dialogue and negotiations and say Beijing is ready to play a constructive role in promoting a political settlement of the crisis.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also described Beijing’s position as constructive and balanced in July, saying Moscow highly values China’s understanding of the origins of the conflict and possible political solutions.
