Solar activity intensifies: Threat to Earth

Solar activity has increased sharply since midnight on August 25. Scientists say this could affect Earth, TodayPress TV reports.

According to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, an active region located in the center of the solar disk has unexpectedly become more active.

Three strong M-class solar flares, ranging from M1.7 to M1.9, were recorded during the first hours of the day. It is reported that only four such events have occurred from the beginning of August until now.

No impact of the current solar activity on Earth in the form of a geomagnetic storm has been recorded so far. However, experts emphasize that the risks to Earth have remained high in recent months.

Scientists note that powerful solar flares can be accompanied by plasma ejections. If these plasma clouds reach Earth, they can trigger a geomagnetic storm.

Solar flares are classified according to their strength into A, B, C, M and X classes. M-class flares are considered strong events, while X-class flares are the highest category.
