“Doomsday Radio” broadcasts 19 coded messages: What is happening on August 27?

The UGB-76 shortwave radio station, known as the “Doomsday Radio”, has broadcast 19 messages since the morning of August 27, TodayPress TV reports.

According to TASS calculations based on data from online radio monitoring systems and information from radio enthusiasts, August 27 has been one of the five days with the highest number of broadcasts by the station since the beginning of the year.

The first message was broadcast at 06:57 Moscow time. It was the word “podgolosok”, a musical term meaning an accompanying voice. By 14:31, another 18 words had been broadcast at various intervals. Alongside existing Russian words, some word forms not found in dictionaries were also heard. These included “skipokrat”, “stykodust”, “maxokran”, “vvozorul” and “buntolyot”.

The highest number of words broadcast in a single day since the beginning of the year was recorded on February 11, when 28 words were heard on UGB-76. On June 24, 27 words were broadcast throughout the day, while 20 were broadcast on March 12 and 16 on June 30.

It should be noted that the previous broadcast on the station’s frequency was recorded on August 24. Four messages were broadcast that day.

Unofficially known as UGB-76 or the “Doomsday Radio”, the station has been broadcasting on shortwave frequencies since the 1970s. There is no official confirmation of its purpose. The station regularly broadcasts coded messages consisting of various word forms on its frequency. Between voice messages, an audio marker usually operates on the UGB-76 frequency, which has earned the station the nickname “The Buzzer”.
