Austria's new ambassador presents copy of credentials to Jeyhun Bayramov

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received Austria's newly appointed Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Etienne Berchtold, TodayPress TV informs, citing Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.

Ambassador Berchtold presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Bayramov. The minister congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Austria in political, economic, energy, transport, tourism, humanitarian, and other fields. The importance of political dialogue between the two countries was emphasized. It was noted that reciprocal visits and contacts, the mechanism of political consultations, as well as inter-parliamentary relations, play a significant role in advancing bilateral ties.

The parties also exchanged views on cooperation between Azerbaijan and Austria within multilateral platforms, particularly the United Nations, the OSCE, and the European Union. The importance of further strengthening mutual cooperation and coordination within these organizations was highlighted.

Minister Bayramov once again congratulated Austria on being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028 and expressed hope for enhanced cooperation.

The meeting also addressed the current state and prospects of cooperation in the economy, energy, and transport sectors, as well as strategic energy and transport projects implemented with Azerbaijan's initiative and participation.

It was underlined that Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring Europe's energy security, and satisfaction was expressed with the start of natural gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Austria in January of this year.

The discussions further covered the post-conflict situation in the region, the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process, steps taken by Azerbaijan to ensure lasting peace and stability, and the challenges encountered. Large-scale reconstruction and restoration works carried out in the liberated territories were also brought to attention.

Ambassador Berchtold stated that his country considers Azerbaijan an important and reliable partner and stressed that during his tenure he will spare no effort to further develop bilateral cooperation in all areas.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
