Hollywood-style heist: 59 rare artifacts discovered in 1963 stolen

The Villena Treasure, dating back to the Bronze Age, has been stolen from the MARQ Archaeology Museum in the Spanish city of Alicante, TodayPress TV reports, citing 20minutos.es.

The robbers broke a museum window and entered the building during the night.

The alarm was triggered at 05:16. The theft lasted just four minutes. The perpetrators acted quickly and in a coordinated manner, using several vehicles.

Spain’s Civil Guard is currently examining surveillance camera footage to determine how the theft occurred and identify those responsible. Investigators are also continuing to search for fingerprints and other evidence.

It should be noted that the Villena Treasure is one of the largest Bronze Age hoards. It is attributed to the Valencian Bronze Culture. The treasure was first discovered in 1963 during excavations near Villena. It includes several gold and silver vessels, bowls, bracelets and other items. The treasure consists of a total of 59 objects and weighs approximately 10 kilograms.
